Kukeldash Madrasah

Kukeldash Madrasah is the largest madrasah and one of the most famous historical monuments of Tashkent. In the 9th and 10th centuries there were Czech fortress gates, one of the three city gates.

Kukeldash Madrasah was built in the 16th century (1570), and is considered one of the largest madrasahs of that time preserved in Central Asia. It is built of burnt brick according to the traditional madrasah principle.

It has been repaired and restored many times, so the current appearance of the building is significantly different from the original, although in size and architectural design this monument of ancient architecture is not inferior to the famous madrasahs of Bukhara and Samarkand. Like any madrasah, Kukeldash Madrasah was an educational institution.

However, for several centuries of its existence, the Kukeldash madrasah has repeatedly fallen into disrepair for several centuries, but in the end it was restored by the forces of Tashkent masters.
