Ulugbek Madrasah in Bukhara

Ulugbek Madrasah is a madrasah building in the historical center of Bukhara, erected in 1417 by Temur’s grandson, ruler and astronomer Ulugbek (1409-1449). It is the oldest of the three madrassas built by Ulugbek.

An interesting feature of Ulugbek Madrasah is that the corridor at the entrance is divided and leads in two directions – to the mosque and darshona (study hall). A phrase from the Quran was carved on the doors of the Ulugbek Madrasah, which can be called the motto of Ulugbek himself: “The pursuit of knowledge is the duty of every Muslim and Muslim woman.”

Today, the madrasah is one of the oldest architectural attractions of the city. Inside the building there is a museum where you can tell about the various stages of restoration of Bukhara architectural monuments.
