Uzbekistan is on the third place in the CIS in terms of population. The population of Uzbekistan is 35.6 million people. Most of the people live in the Samarkand region (about 3.6 million people), in the Fergana region (more than 3.5 million people), in the Kashkadarya region (more than 3 million people). About 2.5 million people live in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is a multinational country where live people different nationalities as Uzbeks, Tajiks, Kazakhs, Kyrgyzs, Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Tatars, Koreans, Turkmens, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Persians, Turks, Uighurs, Crimean Tatars, Germans, Poles, etc.

About 80% of the population are Uzbeks, representatives of other peoples from Central Asia about 10%, another 10% are Russians and other Slavic peoples.

The multinationality of Uzbekistan is due to various historical events. For example, in Soviet time, many young people came here on the project of raising and developing new lands. Also during the Second World War, people of many nationalities were evacuated here. Representatives of individual nations were deported during the years of Stalin’s repression.

The official language of Uzbekistan is Uzbek. But people also speak fluently in Russian, especially in large cities. In some cities, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, people also speak Tajik.
