Allakuli Khan Madrasah

Allakuli Khan Madrasah is one of the largest educational and spiritual madrasahs in Khiva.

The madrasah was built in 1834-1835 at the expense of Khan Allakuli, who then ruled in Khiva. It is rightfully considered one of the best examples of architecture of the last period of the Middle Ages.

There is a rather strict, but at the same time strikingly elegant decoration of the portal and arched niches with traditional majolica of the Khorezm type in blue and black-and-white shades. In the XIX century, the city library was located on the first floor of the madrasah, which was very much in demand by students of all Khiva madrasahs.

Today, the Abu Ali ibn Sino Museum of the History of Medicine is located in the building of the Allakuli Khan Madrasah.
