The Republic of Kazakhstan is located in the heart of Eurasia and borders the Russian Federation in the north and west, China in the east, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in the south. It has water borders with Azerbaijan and Iran.
The total area of the country is 2,725,000 km2, and it ranks 9th in the world. The length of the country from north to south is about 1,700 km and from east to west 3,000 km .
Kazakhstan has no direct access to the World Ocean. There are more than 8 thousand rivers and about 48,000 lakes in the country, among them one of the largest lakes in the world – Balkhash. More than 40% of the country is made up of deserts.
The population of Kazakhstan is more than 19 million people. The indigenous population is about 63%. As well as many representatives of many other nationalities: Russians, Ukrainians, Uzbeks, Germans, Tatars, Uighurs, Uzbeks, Koreans, Azerbaijanis, Dungans, etc. The Unity Day of the People of Kazakhstan is celebrated annually on May 1.
The most densely populated city is Almaty, which is located in the south-east of the republic and was the capital of the republic until 1997. More than 2 million people live in Almaty, the next most populous city is the capital of the republic, the city of Astana.
