Akorda is the presidential residence in the capital Astana. It was built on the banks of the Ishim River not far from the Bayterek monument. Important state administrative buildings are located next to the residence.
Akorda’s construction began in the fall of 2001, and the official opening took place on December 24, 2004. Italian marble was used for the cladding of the building. The height of the structure reaches 80 m (including the spire). Akorda has five floors above the ground and two underground. The kitchen, dining room, garage and technical services are underground.
In the residence official and ceremonial receptions are held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan: summits, conferences, presentation of awards, important negotiations with the Heads of other states, meetings of the Security Council of the republic, and so on. The president’s meetings with representatives of the media are also held in the press conference hall.
