Tillya-Sheikh Mosque

Tillya-Sheikh Mosque was built at the end of the 19th century and is part of the buildings of the historical and architectural ensemble Hazret Imam.

The literal translation of the name of the Tillya-Sheikh mosque is “The Mosque of the Golden Sheikh”. It is not the largest mosque, but it is recognized as one of the main religious attractions of the city. Moreover, in the old days it was the main mosque of Tashkent, it was also called the Friday Mosque of the city.

The mosque was erected on behalf of the rich Kokand Khan Mirza Ahmed Kushbegi, who built three other quarter mosques. He became famous as a good man and a devout Muslim, well educated and not indifferent to the troubles of other people.

Souvenir shops are located near the mosque, local artisans produce various handicrafts, but the prices here are inflated, as tourists write.

According to travelers, there is a walking area around the mosque, there are benches for relaxing. The mosque looks especially beautiful in the rays of sunset, when the square in front of it is empty. And in the evening, when it gets dark, the backlight turns on, turning the buildings into an oriental fairy tale-a mirage. Many tourists note the amazing photogenicity of this place.
