Afrasiyab is an ancient city with an area of more than 200 hectares, in the form of a cluster of yellow-gray loess hills, located in the northern part of the modern city of Samarkand.
Local residents believe in one legend invented by the mythical king of Turan – Afrasiyab about the existence of a huge city, but in fact it is a settlement of pre-Mongol Samarkand. It was here that city life took place from the 6th century BC until the destruction by the Mongols in 1220.
Samples of clay ornamented dishes, terracotta figurines, fragments of ossuaries, glass products, various tools, women’s jewelry, coins were found at the settlement.
There is also the Afrasiyab Museum with a collection of archaeological finds made on the site of this ancient city.
