Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasah

An architectural monument located in Khiva, erected in 1852-1855 at the expense and by order of the Uzbek ruler Muhammad Amin Khan.

As part of Ichan-Kala, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990. Currently, it is an object of tourist service and display, where the hotel of the tourist complex “Khiva” is located.

The main facade of the Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasah is separated from the street by an outer courtyard surrounded by a wall with a domed entrance.

The madrasah is two-storied. The total area of the building is 77×60 meters, the courtyard area is 38×38 meters.

Most of the inscriptions of Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasah were compiled by the famous poet, historian and translator Agakhi. All inscriptions on the courtyard portals of the madrasah are written in nastalik’s handwriting (also in italics) on majolica tiles. The letters are white on a dark blue background.
