Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum

The mausoleum of Chashma-Ayub is one of the religious monuments of Bukhara; a traditionally revered place, a well with a spring that arose by the will of the biblical Job-Ayub. This religious building was built in the XII century. under the Karakhanids, but was repeatedly rebuilt during the XIV-XIX centuries.

According to legend, the people of Bukhara lands suffered from thirst. At that time, the prophet Job wandered through this area, who saved them from drought. Job struck the ground with his staff, and at the same moment a well with cool clear water appeared. People still believe that the water in the spring has healing power.

The structure consists of four rooms, each of which was decorated with a dome. Today, the mausoleum building houses a Water Museum and an exhibition of carpets.
