The national currency of Uzbekistan is the sum.
For the first time the amount was put into circulation in the form of coupons together with the Soviet ruble on November 15, 1993 and from July 1, 1994 became the only official national currency of the country.
Since June 2021, the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan has put into circulation new banknotes, which are united by the theme of the Great Silk Road. The outlines of the republic’s map with the directions of caravan roads are printed on all banknotes.
The card is placed on a background with the image of the national fabric Khan-atlas, which is used not only as an element of decoration, but also for protection purposes. They are designed to gradually replace obsolete banknotes of previous issues. On the old banknotes of the previous sample, the coat of arms and denomination are depicted on the obverse, and various sights of Uzbekistan are depicted on the reverse.
In circulation are banknotes in denominations of 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000 and 200,000 sums and coins – in 50, 100, 200 and 500 sums.
Sum has become a convertible currency since 2004. There are currency exchange offices almost all over the country, mainly in hotels, airports, banks, and markets. Most exchange offices accept US dollars, euros and Russian rubles.
