Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic

The Kazakh Philharmonic named after Zhambyl was founded in 1935.

The original composition consisted of a dombra orchestra, a national choir, a large orchestra of national instruments and the Zhetysu ensemble.

Currently, the Philharmonic consists of six collectives: the State Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Academic Folklore and Ethnographic Orchestra, the State Quintet of Wooden Instruments, the State Choral Chapel and the State String Quartet.

The Philharmonic Hall was built in the style of “simplified classics” in 1933 by Leningrad architects and for a long time remained the largest concert venue in Kazakhstan.
