Sairam Ugam National Park is located among the mountains of the Western Tien Shan on the border with Uzbekistan.
The park has a big variety of landscapes, starting from the steppes and ending by the glaciers. It is famous for its juniper forests, as well as fruit and walnut trees. The territory of Sairam Ugam includes the Ugam range, Karatau, Boraldaytau and Talas Alatau mountains.
The park is divided into four sections: an ecologically protected zone (55%), a zone of limited economic activity, a zone of recreational and tourist activities (13%) and an ecological stabilization zone (9%).
The climate in the Sairam Ugam region is cold and arid. Temperatures can range from -1.9 ° C in January to 25.9 ° C in July.
The different altitude zones of the park determine its biodiversity. About a third of the territory of Sairam Ugam is covered with forests, and glaciers lie on an area of more than 11 km2. 1635 plant species grow here, 35 of them are endemic. Fauna includes foxes, wolves, jackals, mountain goats, wild boars, roe deer and other animal species.
Although most of the area is protected, the park offers several touristic itineraries for visitors, including trails for hiking, horseback riding and bus routes.
