Kok Zhailyau is translated from the Kazakh language as “a green pasture.” Hikers often come to this picturesque place for outdoor activities.
It is located on the territory of the Ile Alatau National Natural Park 10 km from Almaty. It offers breathtaking views of Almaty, the Shymbulak ski resort, Medeo and Big Almaty peak.
Kok Zhailau is home to hundreds of species of birds, animals and plants. Among the birds, we can find such rare species as the black stork, the dwarf eagle, the peregrine falcon, the sicklebeak, the migratory saker falcon and others.
The Tien Shan shrew, Tien Shan mouse, red deer, roe deer, Tien Shan brown bear, stone marten, Turkestan lynx, Indian porcupine, snow leopard or snow leopard also live on the territory of the tract.
The flora is represented by such plants as Ostrovsky and Zinaida’s tulip, Alatavsky saffron, elecampane, as well as the famous Sievers apple tree.
