Geological Museum

The Geological Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is located in Almaty. Its official opening took place in 1997.

The museum presents unique collections of minerals and rocks represented by more than 2500 exhibits. They emphasize the wealth of the country’s bowels and the achievements of the geological services of Kazakhstan. The museum is distinguished by its original design in the form of an underground mountain mine, which consists of 3 exhibition halls.

Visitors of the museum can get from hall to hall by means of an elevator that resembles a mine cage. The small hall of the museum is designed in the form of a drift, a horizontal mine passage. Specific lighting and sound effects, rails, stone walls and other details give a complete feeling of being in an underground mine. The Great Hall displays samples of various minerals and ores, including an amazing collection of agates.

The museum has also a shop selling precious stones.
