Assy Plateau

The high mountain plateau of Assy is a picturesque oasis located 100 km from Almaty at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level in Zailiyskiy Alatau.

Tourists come to Assy for the incredibly beautiful views. Ancient mounds and petroglyphs are located along the river on its territory.

The Assy Turgen astronomical observatory was built on the top of the plateau. The construction of the observatory began in 1975 under the leadership of the Astrophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakh SSR. Assy Turgen is the only observatory in the country with an ideal astroclimate.

In the spring and summer, the Assy plateau revives: meadows are covered with a colorful carpet of mountain flowers and plants, rivers are filled with crystal water, and herds of playful horses appear on the pastures.
