Aksu Jabagli National Reserve is located in the foothills of the western Tien Shan, between Turkestan and Zhambyl region, on a total area of more than 131,000 hectares. The height of the reserve varies from 1000 to 4280 meters.
Aksu Jabagli National Reserve was established in 1926 by the Council of People of the Kazakh SSR and is considered the first biosphere reserve in Kazakhstan. In 2015, it was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The reserve was named after the Aksu and Zhabagly rivers, which flow into the Arys River. The highest point of the reserve is the peak “Sairam” towering at an altitude of 4238 meters above sea level, the outlines of the peak resembles a reclining camel.
On the territory of the reserve live argali, deer, roe deer, wolves, bears, snow leopards and many other representatives of the animal world . The flora of the reserve is also diverse.
