In 1915, Poles, Austrians and Hungarians prisoners of war began to arrive in Samarkand. In the same year, permission was obtained for the construction of a Catholic church in Samarkand.

The project of the architect E. Nelle is taken as a basis. The temple is built of light brown stone, like most of the buildings of the “Russian district” of that period. Nearby there is an Orthodox church, a cemetery and interesting buildings of the late 19th century.
