Geographical Location and Territory of Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is located in Central Asia, bordered by:
- Kazakhstan to the northwest
- Uzbekistan to the north and northeast
- Afghanistan to the southeast
- Iran to the south and southwest
- Caspian Sea to the west
Territory
- Total area: 491,210 km² (one of the largest countries in Central Asia)
- Landscape: Mostly desert (Karakum Desert covers about 80% of the country), with mountains in the south and fertile river valleys
- Major rivers: Amu Darya, Murghab, Tejen, and Atrek
- Caspian Sea coastline: About 1,768 km
