Independence Monument

The Monument of Independence in Ashgabat, is a significant symbol of national pride and sovereignty. Completed in 2001 to commemorate the country’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the monument stands prominently in the capital city.

A golden statue of Turkmenistan’s first president, Saparmurat Niyazov, often referred to as Turkmenbashi, at the top of the structure.

The monument is designed in a traditional style, incorporating elements of ancient Turkmen architecture and modern influences. It is surrounded by lush gardens and 27 statues of Turkmen heroes, representing different eras of the nation’s history. At its base, a wide staircase leads up to the main platform, which is adorned with fountains and symbolic reliefs showcasing the country’s independence, culture, and historical achievements.
