Turkmenistan is a land of ancient deserts and striking landscapes, where traditions and customs have been preserved for centuries. In the vast, golden sands of the Karakum Desert, the people continue to live in harmony with their surroundings.  Their homes are carefully constructed and beautifully adorned with vibrant tapestries and hand woven rugs, reflecting the deep cultural heritage of their people.   • 1. Due to the changing conditions of some roads & traffic it might take slightly more or less time to drive than the mentioned driving time in the program
  • 2. Flight times are subject to be changed by Turkmenistan Airlines, for domestic flights hand language is 5kg, and baggage is 20kg per person, if the baggage is overweight you pay between 2-3$ per kg.
  • 3. If the traveller stays more than 3 working days in Turkmenistan, the travel agency will register and stamp your passport on a local Tourist Board.
  • 4. An express PCR test for Covid-19 will be taken upon arrival. It costs between 35-45 USD.
  • 5. Please keep with you 1,5,10,20 USD banknotes for 100-150 USD, when you get the visa at the airport or the land borders, sometimes the bank does not have the change and accepts only cash.
  • 6. Breakfast box in case of very early morning departures.

Itinerary
Day 1: Shavat – Koneurgench – Dashoguz

Our representative will meet you at the Turkmen/Uzbek border “Shavat” at 09:00. Drive to Kunya Urgench (1.5h). Sightseeing tour in Kunya Urgench: visit Portal of Caravansaray, Mamun Minaret, II Arslan Mausoleum, Sultan Tekesh Mausoleum, Academy of Horezm, Kutlug Timur Minaret, Turabek Hanum Mausoleum. Then drive back to Dashoguz. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Dashoguz – Darvaza
Day 2: Dashoguz – Darvaza

Picnic-style breakfast in Darvaza. Afternoon drive to Darvaza Burning Gas Crater (6h, 300km) The Crater is also called “The Door to Hell”. The area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 60 m and 20 m deep. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn it off. Geologists had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days, but the gas is still burning today. In the evening, watch the spectacular and fascinating view of the gas crater. BBQ dinner & overnight at Gas Crater.

Day 3: Darvaza – Ashgabat

BF at the camp. Morning drive to Ashgabat (4h, 270km).  Check in to the hotel. Free time.

After you will have an Ashgabat city tour. In 2013 the Guinness Book of Records named Ashgabat a “white marbled city” – here you can see the biggest number of structures in the world made out of white marble. You will see the Wedding Palace, the modern “Yildyz” Hotel, the Ferries Wheel, the Constitution Monument, the Arch of Neutrality, the Monument and Park of Independence, Ertogrul Gazy Mosque, Ashgabat Olympic Stadium, the Earthquake and Victims of WWII Monuments. Overnight in Ashgabat.

Day 4: Ashgabat – Mary
Day 4: Ashgabat – Mary

Breakfast at the hotel. Then drive to Mary (350km, 3h). If time permits, visit the local Green Bazaar, Mary Regional Museum, the Library for 6000 readers with the Observatory on top, also the Old Russian Church, which was built in 1900. Overnight at hotel.

Day 5: Mary – Merw – Farap
Day 5: Mary – Merw – Farap

BF at the hotel. Drive to Merv to explore ancient Merv – “Queen of the world”, was one of the most important capitals of Islam along with Baghdad, Cairo and Damascus. Sightseeing of ancient Merv includes Greater Kyz Gala & Lesser Kyz Gala (VI-VII), Complex of Askhabs (VIII-XIV), Erk Gala (VI BC), Gyaur Gala (IV BC), Hoja Yusup Hamadani complex, Sultan Sanjar mausoleum, Muhamed Ibn Zeid mausoleum. After sightseeing,  drive to the Turkmen-Uzbek border Farap border (3h).
