Shanyrak is an element, installed in the central part of the yurt and forming the ceiling. It is designed to support the sides of the dome and create an opening for sunlight. Since ancient times, it was one of the important items and was considered a family heirloom that passed down from generation to generation.
Traditionally, it was installed by respected authoritative relatives, and in gratitude for the help, a horse or a camel was presented to him.
For the Kazakh people, shanyrak has a great symbolic meaning, so it was not by chance that it was depicted on the state emblem. It symbolizes the well-being and unity of all peoples living on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In addition to the shanyrak, the yurt also consists of lattice walls, a doorway and poles. Much attention is paid to the manufacture and quality of the yurt, and only durable and pliable materials, such as birch or black willow, are usually used for its construction. For interior and exterior decoration, colored felt carpets with ornaments were used.
