Since ancient times, nomads have attached special importance to national clothing. Clothing was made from natural materials, mainly such as fur, leather and wool of wild animals.

According to the material, quality and decorations on clothes, it was possible to determine the occupied status of a person, if wealthy people could afford imported silk and velvet materials, then the poor were mostly content with inexpensive materials.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the establishment of relations with other countries, including European ones, made a great impact to the style of clothing of the Kazakh people, and the traditional chapans were replaced by suits and coats.

Despite this, traditional clothing still has a high value, beautifully sewn chapans are worn on holidays, and beautiful decorated dresses adorn the scenes at traditional celebrations.
