Khan Tengri
Khan-Tengri Peak, with a height of 6995 meters, is the highest point in Kazakhstan. It is located on the border of three countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China. Mountaineers consider Khan-Tengri one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. Hundreds of climbers from all over the world gather for festivals in international climbing camps located on its glaciers.
Altai Mountains
The eastern part of the country is covered by the Altai Mountains. The highest point here is Mount Belukha with a height of 4500 meters. Today the most often climbing is made along the Akkem wall. This is the fastest, but most dangerous way consisting of many cliffs. Avalanches are a frequent occurrence in these mountains, which are composed of quartz, granite, chert, and limestone. Another high peak in the Altai region is Mount Kuinen-Uul (4300 meters).
Peak Talgar
Peak Talgar is the highest point of the Tien Shan Mountains, located in the south of the country. It is part of the Almaty Reserve. On its southern slope lies one of the largest glaciers in the region – the Korzhnevsky glacier, which is about 12 km long. A favorable climatic period for climbing is from July to mid-September. One of the best ski resorts in Kazakhstan, Ak Bulak, operates here.
Peak Nursultan
Nursultan Peak is the hallmark of Almaty. Its height is 4330 meters. It is visible from almost every part of the city. It is here traditional competitions among the climbers and alpinists are often held. Many athletes and amateurs try to conquer the summit in order to look at the city from a breathtaking height.
