Besh Aral State Reserve is located in Kyrgyzstan in the southwestern part of the Chatkal valley surrounded by Pskem, Chandalash, Talas, and Chatkal ranges at altitudes of 1,100 to 4,000 meters.
The reserve area is more than 1120 square km., continue to reserve can only through passes Kara Buura (3305 m) in the Talas Ala-Too and Chapchama (2840 m) in the Chatkal ridge.
In the valley flows the large river Chatkal, which total length is 144 km. The Besh-Aral reserves over 1,500 species of plants, 30 of which are included in the Red Book. There are also many herbs.
The reserve is the habitat of 46 species of mammals and 150 species of birds.
Here we can meet wild boars, goats, rabbits, wolves, foxes, bears, martens, porcupines, red marmots, and other wild animals.
A special place in the fauna of the reserve occupies the animal endemic of the Western Tien Shan, a groundhog marmot, listed in the Red Book.
