Toktogul is an urban-type settlement in the Jalal-Abad region, the village is located off the coast of the Toktogul reservoir – another water pearl of Kyrgyzstan.
The reservoir is formed on the Naryn River and is the largest reservoir in Central Asia.
The village, hydroelectric power station and reservoir are named after the famous Kyrgyz national akyn – Toktogul Satylganov. He was an expert in oral poetry, composer and musician – he masterfully performed his works on a komuz (a three-stringed musical instrument).
