- Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO): Traveling to GBAO, which includes the Pamir Mountains, requires a special permit. This permit can be obtained through the e-Visa application process or by applying directly at the Department of Visas and Registration of Foreign Citizens (OVIR) in Dushanbe. The permit is typically issued for 14 days and costs approximately 25 Tajik Somoni.

Border Crossings:
- Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan Border: As of July 2023, the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has reopened. Travelers require special permission from the Kyrgyz government to cross, which can be arranged through local Kyrgyz travel agencies at a cost of approximately $15 per person. Direct border crossings are not allowed for Tajik and Kyrgyz citizens; travelers must change vehicles at the border and walk through a 500-meter neutral zone at Kyzyl Art Pass.
